Mike Barwis is the founder and CEO of the BARWIS family of companies, including BARWIS Methods Training and ARS Screening, BARWIS Neurological Reengineering, BARWIS Performance Centers & Equipment and more.

The BARWIS conglomerate of companies has enabled Mike to do what he loves the most: help people! Mike has worked with thousands of organizations striving to achieve greatness, and the BARWIS company has grown its business by gaining the respect of each individual client. Mike's success rate rests in his love for the clients he calls FAMILY and his relentless pursuit to have a positive impact in the lives of all people.

The Athletic Angels Foundation has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship money and youth assitance programs.

Mike has utilized his background in physiology to influence the lives of many. To begin with, Mike wrote the West Virginia University's undergraduate and graduate curriculum for Streength & Conditioning. He also taught that curriculum for 10 years as a sought-after adjunct professor. He has always taken pride in sharing his knowledge and using his certifications to help ALL people live the healthiest life possible.

Through these multi-channel disciplines, Mike is able to prescribe specified corrective programming and performance orientated protocols to elicit the clients desired outcomes. This highly integrated & interactive methodology has led numerous teams and athletes to World titles, Olympic gold medals, National Champioships and life-changing outcomes for clients that he calls FAMILY.

In the field of Sports Science and Consulting, accountability doesn’t get any better. Over three decades, Mike Barwis has helped teams, organizations and clients elevate their health and performance at all levels of competition. He has also designed many of the elite facility layouts across the country to keep up to date with the rapid technology growth in the human performance industry.

Mike Barwis is the current Director of Sports Science and Human Performance for the Detroit Red Wings, Senior Advisor of Strength and Conditioning to the New York Mets, and former consultant for the Miami Dolphins.

Mike has founded two non-profits, Athletic Angels and the First Step Foundation.

He unofficially began the Athletic Angels Foundation in 1993 while coaching in Morgantown, WV to help impoverished children gain access to athletic, academic and mentoring opportunities, by leveraging his relationships with athletes and philanthropists. Mike's goal was to connect those who could help with those who were currently economically disadvantaged in order to show them love and respect that they may otherwise forever be denied.

The First Step Foundation was founded by Barwis in 2014 to help people with neuromuscular disabilities gain and retain access to the BARWIS Methods Injury Recovery Program (IRP) as well as to enhance and expand the program to be able to help more people.

Mike’s dedication to living a life with purpose and his unwavering persistence to achieve the uncommon has helped his clients overcome some of life’s most formidable obstacles. In 2007, while head strength and conditioning coach at the University of Michigan, Mike met incoming recruit Elliott Mealer whose brother Brock had suffered severe neurological injuries due to a car accident. Brock had been given a 1% chance to walk again. Mike believed he could help Brock stare down the 99%. And he was right!

Mike is internationally sought after and has a passion for solving some of the most immense problems faced by the sports science and rehabilitation communities and has given thousands not just hope but RESULTS! It is this passion combined with his experience with Brock that catalyzed the creation of the BARWIS Neurological Reengineering Program (NRP), a personalized and proprietary methodology developed to assist in creating and re-establishing neurological pathways to increase neural stimulus and motor control. Hundreds of individuals with various forms of paralysis and other disabilities have trusted the BARWIS Neurological Reengineering Program to help in their recovery journey and have achieved their mobility goals, whether that be hugging a loved one, dressing and feeding themselves, or walking independently again.

The field of Sports Science is constantly improving, and athletes have more data than ever about their bodies.

Leading the charge in sports science is the BARWIS ARS Screen, a comprehensive, full body neuromuscular evaluation provided by a certified BARWIS Methods Trainer. During the screen, there is an evaluation of each joint and muscle group to establish levels of neurological activation and firing patterns, ascertain neuromuscular firing sequences for primary movers and synergist assisters, and determine joint and muscle ranges of motion and causes of resistance throughout those ranges.

The BARWIS ARS Screen becomes the foundation for an 8-week personalized training program with appropriate daily workout protocols and exercises designed to counteract imbalances, correct improper biomechanics, and re-assimilate proper neurological firing patterns. The BARWIS ARS Screen delivers the world's most scientifically based full body assessment that enables Mike and his team to create a plan of action that brings about RESULTS!
